The Italian Dystonia Society was founded in Rome in 1992 with the support of Prof. A. Albanese. The number of members is around 200. It is financed by membership fees, fund-raising events and donations. There are a few regional self-help groups. Brochures are available and a newsletter is published once or twice a year. With the support of a Medical Advisory Board several meetings are organised to update members on research and therapy developments. A help line is available, especially for newly diagnosed patients.
