The ÖDG was founded in 1995 with Christa Hafenscher as Chairwoman. The number of members is over 120. A Medical Advisory Board of 6 specialists supports the Board in medical matters. Brochures and a newsletter, which is edited three times a year, inform members and the public on all forms of dystonia.  Five regional self-help-groups in various parts of Austria support members.
