Amadys started in 1987 as a self-help-group for patients with blepharospasm (AMB) by Prof. H. Bigorre. Only in 1997 it changed its name to Amadys and now also supports patients with all forms of dystonia. Chairman since 2003 is Claude Michon with a Board of 8 other elected members. The number of members is now over 1600. A Medical Advisory Board of 20 specialists supports Amadys. Brochures and a newsletter, published three times a year, are available for members.

Over a period of more than three years the Board of AMADYS and LFCD have worked on merging the two French Dystonia Groups. At the General Assembly of LFCD on the 30th September 2006  it was agreed to dissolve LFCD, in order to facilitate the necessary administrative procedures. The new Association is called ‘Association de Malades atteints de DYStonie’ (AMADYS), but the acronym will be AMADYS/LFCD. This will be effective from January 1st 2007.

Board members from both Societies work together in the newly formed group.
